2010 is truly upon us

25 January 2010

2010 is truly upon us and it is hard to believe that we as South Africans have waited in such anticipation for this year. The Soccer World Cup is around the corner and I for one cannot wait for the event to start. It is easy to forget that the World Cup will only take up about 2 months of the year, but what about the rest? In answering the “what happens to the rest of the year?” question, will lie the success of 2010. Yes the World Cup is a huge event, but the year is about so much more.

My year has started off on very tough note. The Chevrolet Diamond Eagles has had a tough time of it and I for one decided to relinquish the captaincy of the Eagles. What I have realised is that it does not matter how the season started but how I am going to end it. There is no person that can do it for me. I had to make that decision. The words of Mohammad Ali inspired me: “Every great work, every big accomplishment has been brought into being by holding to the vision. And often, just before the big achievement comes apparent failure and disappointment. For the greatest accomplishment is not in never falling but in rising after you fall.”

Mohammad Ali is and was the greatest heavy weight boxing champion not because he never lost a boxing match, but because he lost the World heavy weight championship 4 times and managed to win it back 4 times.

I would like to wish the Warriors and Dolphins all the best in the final of the MTN40. May the best team win.
