End of the season is around the corner

12 March 2009

It is hard to believe that the end of the season is around the corner. It felt just like just yesterday that I returned from the UK.

The season so far has been one of many highlights. Who will ever forget the heroics of the Proteas in Australia. We showed how much class and talent we have when we beat Australia on their home soil. The first team to do so since the mighty West Indians did it way back in 1992-1993 under the leadership of Richie Richardson. It was such a big achievement that I think it cost us during the current series against the Aussies back home in SA. Why would I say that? Truth be told – we are still very much a team that is maturing and as we play more and more this current SA team will become of the greatest SA teams ever. I must say that I can’t wait for this SA team to reach their full potential!

Congratulations to the Cobras who won the Standard Bank Pro20 Competition. As much as I would have liked the Eagles to have won the Cup, the Cobras played great cricket in the final. Herchelle Gibbs played a great innings that only a player of his quality and maturity could do and put the game beyond the reach of the Eagles. I must say that the quality of cricket that was played during the play-off rounds of the Standard Bank Pro20 was of the highest class. To make matters even more exciting both semi-finals had to be decided with the Power Over. One could not have asked for better entertainment!

Let’s hope that the SuperSport Series will be just as exciting as we head into the final stages of the 2008 / 2009 season.
