Terrible news for cricket

9 December 2008

The2 news that Champions League 20/20 was postponed was terrible news for cricket. The Titans and the Dolphins players must surely feel that they have been deprived of something very special. The Champions League would have pitted our best teams against the best of the world. The exposure that the players would have received would have been worth far more than just the money that could have been made. Let’s hope and pray that there will be a small gap in fixtures in the near future so that the Champions League could be played.

The irony of the whole situation is that cricket has been a great uniting force in the past as well as now, cutting across the cultural and racial boundries. The terrorists that caused the Champions League to be postponed seek to divide. Let all of us that play cricket remember that we have a huge responsibility to unity and with cricket we have a great tool to do it with.

The SA team arrived in Australia this week for a great showdown with the current world number 1 team. I do believe that this is our best opportunity of beating Australia and like the rest of you I cannot wait for the series to begin. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Greame Smith and the National team all the best for the upcoming tour. Guys go make us pround!

I would like to wish all the cricketers and their wives a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year and may we remember that the greatest gift in the world is still for free!

Let’s hope after the England tour, our players and administrators will feel more secure in India.

I totally agree. It is a major shame this tournament has been postponed. As an Australian I was greatly looking forward to seeing our best teams in action against the best teams from the rest of the world. As you say it is the aim of the terrorists to cause things like this (and worse) to happen. It would be great if we could stand up against them and move on as fast as possible.
