Back on home soil.

9 October 2008

Home sweet home. After a long and very eventful English summer it is wonderful to be back on home soil.

The enjoyment of being home was short lived as we left for Kimberley two days after I landed in SA, for our first Supersport Series match against the Cobras. Just being around my own people made it even worth while being away from home. From a cricketing point it is really great that there is so much cricket. In the past provincial players wished for more cricket, to sharpen their skills and now that seems to be happening. I think it is wonderful that the National players will be playing in some of the Supersport Series games at the start of the season. It will be a great experience for the next generation of National players to be playing against the likes of Makhaya Ntini , Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis. We as professional cricketers want to test our skills against the best and hopefully this will give some of the players the belief to reach for the stars and play successfully for their country.

The English summer was hectic because of the amount of cricket that one plays, but it could not have prepared me for the schedule that awaited me here in SA. Having said that I do have myself to blame for the hectic schedule. In two weeks I will be writing my helicopter instructors theory exam and to say that it is a lot of work is an understatement. No matter how well prepared you are, you always feel that you could have done more. Just like preparing for a game I feel that the better prepared I am, the better my chance of success.

With the season that just started I wish all the cricketers a well prepared and successful summer. Well that is with the exception when you play against the Eagles!
