My Season at Leicester CCC

5 August 2008

My season at Leicester CCC has been a great and wonderful experience. County cricket is so different than the domestic season back home, but there seems to be a touch of Africa about it. Probably because there are so many South African boys here.

It helps that there are so many of us here as hardly a week goes by without playing against a fellow South African. At Leicester we are quite a few and we are not scared to get together and have as many braai’s as possible. Claude Henderson’s house is the venue of choice and tastesfromhome.co.uk is the shop of choice when only truly South African products will do. The evenings provide a wonderful time to remember things that we miss at home and usually we manage to solve all the problems faced back home. After these wonderful evenings we just again realise how great it is to be South African.

What do I keep myself buzy with when we are not playing cricket? Well I finally managed to get on the golf course and it was great, probably because I won some money off our captain, Paul Nixon. I must say that winning beats the hell out of losing. Other than that I am studying for my helicopter instructor’s exams. I have not had time to fly helicopters in the UK, but will be sure to do so before I return to SA at the end of September.

It is just fitting to congratulate Greame and the boys on their great victory against England at Edgebaston. Not only are we proud to be South African, but it also gives us great leverage to rub it in with our fellow county cricketers.

Till next time

Boeta
